The Franklin

economic development efforts, and to enhance the community’s overall

The Franklin County Merchants and Businessmen’s Association,
95 Floyd Avenue, Rocky Mount, serves as an information center, historical
depository, marketing agents, and offers credit counseling for the citizens

Smith Mountain Lake Chamber of Commerce/Partnership,
16430 Booker T. Washington Hwy., Moneta, is an information resource center
for tourists, newcomers and residents of the counties surrounding Smith
Mountain Lake, and promotes the interests of its business and professional

STEP (Support to Eliminate Poverty), Inc., 200 Dent Street,
Rocky Mount, is the Community Action Agency serving Franklin and Patrick
counties. STEP initiates, provides and coordinates programs to combat
the underlying causes of poverty and to help improve the quality of life
for low income residents. Services include Community Outreach, Legal Aid
satellite location, Before and After School programs, Project Discovery,
Discovery Club, Early Learning Center, Headstart, Literacy Volunteers
of Franklin County, Summer Feeding program, Family Development, Summer
Youth Employment program, Summer Day Camp, Partners in Prevention, Cars
for Work, Therapeutic Foster Care, Feed a Friend, Virginia Water Project,
Section 8 Rental Housing, housing Weatherization, Indoor Plumbing Rehabilitation,
Single Family Regional Loan Fund, Lead-Based Paint Abatement, and Alternative

The Goodwill
Industries of the Valleys, 1045 N. Main Street, Rocky Mount,
provides vocational and social skills training and employment services
for adults with disabilities. Programs include work adjustment training
and sheltered employment. DCFC maintains a store at 315 Franklin Street.

The Volunteer Emergency Families for Children (VEFC)
program provides volunteer emergency placement services for children from
birth to 18 years of age. To volunteer or for information call Social
Services at 483-9247 or Court Services at 483-3050.
Helping Hands of Franklin County, 350 Franklin Street,
Suite 4, Rocky Mount, offers financial counseling, emergency funding,
and referrals of individuals and families to appropriate agencies. 483-2387.
The American Red Cross - Franklin County Chapter, 355
South Main Street, Rocky Mount, provides disaster relief, assistance to
military families, health and safety classes, and coordinates bloodmobile

The United Way of Franklin County, 80 S. Main Street,
Rocky Mount, is a non-profit organization which generates financial support

The Franklin Guild promotes the performing and visual
arts in Franklin County by providing an in-school series of arts experiences
for every grade level, and by offering a variety of public programs. The
Guild supports local artists and regional arts organizations. P.O. Box

The Free Clinic of Franklin County, Inc., STEP Building,
200 Dent Street, Rocky Mount, provides primary health care services and
medications for uninsured and underinsured residents of Franklin County
meeting eligibility guidelines. The clinic is open for walk-in medical
services on Monday evenings and appointments on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
